Shakespeare & Champagne: An Evening at Ars Nova

May 18, 2017

On May 15th at Ars Nova, I shared a piece of the magic I found as a member of the Shakespeare Academy @ Stratford inaugural ensemble by singing a song I helped to write as a student there. It was an evening of hilarious and moving performances, and I am so grateful to have been a part of it! Here's a photo of me singing "Golden Lads" (Music by Rebeka Rosales & Kelly Letourneau, Lyrics by William Shakespeare) from Outrageous Fortune Ensemble's CYMBELINE.

The Mighty Quinn Foundation hosted Shakespeare and Champagne, a fundraising benefit for the Shakespeare Academy at Stratford, on May 15 at Ars Nova in New York City. Jenn Harris (Gayby, New York is Dead) hosted the event. Bryan Terrell Clark, who currently plays George Washington in the Tony Award winning musical Hamilton was among the evening's special guests.

The event also featured performances by Tony nominee Kathryn Meisle (The Elephant Man, Tartuffe), Derek Smith (The Lion King, Green Bird), Obie Award winner Brooke Bloom(upcoming series "Gypsy", "Alpha House"), Noah Bean ("Nikita", "Damages") Carlos Dengler (Interpol) and Ceci Fernandez and Danaya Esperanza straight from their run of Twelfth Night at The Public Theater. The event also featured performances from Kelly Letourneau, Oliver Archibald and John Kinde all alumni of the Shakespeare Academy at Stratford.

"One of the many joys of being Artistic Director of Shakespeare Academy at Stratford," said Artistic Director Brian McManamon "is having the chance to tell people who we are and what we're about. It's an incredibly unique program. Created with the purest of intents, SA@S brings young theater artists from around the country and abroad to train and perform in the Shakespeare loving community of Stratford, Connecticut. As we enter our fourth season, this event is a wonderful opportunity to bridge our communities, share our story and grow support for the brave, generous and spirited young artists who make up the Shakespeare Academy at Stratford."

Now in its fourth season, the Shakespeare Academy @ Stratford is a 6-week summer theater training and performance program that uniquely combines the study of Shakespeare's text, contemporary ensemble training, and the opportunity to rehearse and perform in two Shakespeare productions in repertory on the grounds of the historic American Shakespeare Festival Theater in Stratford, CT. The 2017 season will include Measure For Measure and The Tempest, with performances from July 29 through August 6. Further information regarding Shakespeare Academy @ Stratford may be found at shakespeareacademystratford.org.
